IWSG: Positivity for 2013

The first posting of the year for Alex Cavanaugh's Insecure Writers Support Group.

This year I aim for positivity. I have my insecurities, and I accept them. I doubt that I'm good enough, creative enough, generally enough. Instead of kicking myself for those insecurities and trying to get rid of them, I am going to use these doubts positively. If I worry I am not good enough, I'll work harder. I'll write more. I'll take advice, give advice. The only reason to let those doubts in, is to let them fuel improvement and pushing me forward, not pulling me back.

That's my resolution for 2013: I'm going to be positive. I'm going to celebrate the small achievements (and I'll have a post about that as a regular feature on my blog tomorrow.) I'm going to celebrate when I make a chapter work, when I overcome a worry.

What are your resolutions? Are you going to join me in positivity and celebrating the small things this year?

  4. That's a great resolution. I don't usually make resolutions, but I do make goals. This year, I've got a ton in store, but we'll see what I actually finish. I know that I'll definitely be celebrating all the small successes that come my way.

  6. Yes! My thoughts exactly! By concentrating on the positive, everything is put in a better perspective!

Now, if we can only keep the positive vibes flowing, even when things turn negative, we may achieve the impossible!!

Thanks for your support and words of encouragement on my blog in the last few weeks!

  8. Yes! I would love to join you in those celebrations. I think sometimes all we see is the big picture, but it's the little ones that matter. =)

  12. That sounds like a great resolution. Celebrating the small achievements can be the best thing. And it's the gift that keeps on giving, because the more positive you are, the more that will seep into your interactions with others.

I posted a bunch of my resolutions on my blog, but the one I forgot is that I'm going to keep a journal (she says every year). I love holding onto good memories and learning from the bad ones, and it's always fun to see how my opinions of things have changed.

  13. Great post. I like your idea of celebrating the small things. Every building was book was written one word at at time. I think I'll celebrate the small thing too.

  14. Great post. It's easier, I think, to set out to achieve something than to give up something. 'I won't laze in bed til 10 o'clock' is hard, but 'I'll get up at 9' is do-able! Knowing your weaknesses is a great strength. Onwards!

  18. I absolutely love this outlook! Sometimes I think writers are a little too focused on insecurities and not enough on all the amazing things they've got going for them.
